Why Nelson Mandela was so important....

There are many different reasons why Nelson Mandela was so important.

1. Nelson Mandela went to prison for 27 years.
2. Nelson was the first living person to obtain an honorary Canadian citizenship.
3. Mandela opened the first black law firm in South Africa with fellow lawyer Oliver Tambo and they provided free legal advice to the black people of South Africa.
4. In 1947, he was promoted to the secretary at the ANCYL.
5. Mandela was an activist against apartheid.
6. The United Nations made Mandela s birthday July 18th, Nelson Mandela International Day.
7. In 1993, Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize.
8. Mandela became the first black president of South Africa.
9. Nelson Mandela was born on July 18th 1918 in Mvezo, Cape Province Union of South Africa.    
10. Nelson Mandela passed away on December 5th 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
