Motivation, what's that? Motivation is something that helps you want to do something or inspires you to do something. Things like receiving money or candy etc. may help us want to do something since we are getting a reward in return. You might not like going to school, but maybe you are going on a field trip with your class and maybe you want to go because it's going to be fun. Fun things will help to motivate you. There are also punishments. Maybe if you don't like to do your homework, your teacher gives you a detention and then you can't go to Tim Horton's with your friends for lunch. If you understood that if you do your homework all the time, you will not get a detention and you will be able to go out for lunch with your friends. You may hate doing your chores, but if your parents gave you $10 dollars every week if you did them, it is motivating you to do them; just think by the end of the month you would have $40 dollars, which would mean you would be making $480 dollars a year just by doing a few chores around the house. Anything can motivate you!
Ever wonder how Nelson Mandela got motivated to change the world? The same way you might get motivated to do something. He created the first law firm in South Africa for black people, he did that so he could help them with their difficulties. Mandela was motivated to do that. He wanted to change the world. He wanted to change society in South Africa between blacks and whites. Mandela believed that every single race is equal to one another and that is the way that it should be. Nelson Mandela went to prison for 27 years, that motivated him. What did it motivate him to do? It motivated Mandela to take a stand for what he believed in.
