Nov26

On Nov. 26 for have we talked about being prejudice and how its something we shouldn't be. Then we talked about whether we want to adopt a family of just collect food for Christmas. We can use this in the future because we need to learn to donate to the less fortunate. We also read the first chapter of 'the outsiders' and then had to answer some questions about the characters for homework.

November 22nd Learning Blog

Today in Humanities, we had a short story quiz, we read and answered questions about the story "The Bet". The learning intention was to practice answering questions and reading for a purpose. I can explain what we did and how to do it properly. We can take this beyond humanities because we may need to do activities like this in university to help us get a degree or certificate. We also received our report cards and there is no homework over the weekend!

Nov 20 learning log

Today we marked yesterday's homework which was to finish the booklet on fragment sentences. After, we were given the booklet for run on sentences. Later in the second block of humanities, we went over the test on short stories. Since the average test mark for the entire class wasn't that good, there is going to be a retest on friday. The self marking for the homework can help us know what was wrong and understand why. This skill will help greatly during work and post secondary education. Working on run on sentences can improve our overall writing skills, which can later help us while writing future essays. By going over the test on short stories, we can know what was a mistake and improve by not making the same error again. This will help when taking advanced classes which will move at a very fast pace such as university classes. The only homework was to study short story application.

Learning Log Nov.19 2013

Today we had to read different sentences and determine if they're fragments, or full sentences. If there is a sentence fragment, you have to finish it whatever way you want, that makes it a complete sentence. The purpose of that is if you're writing for realzees, you shouldn't be writing sentence fragments, but full sentences. Pretty much you learn not to write sentence fragments. For homework we have to finish the booklet that we had started today.

Very Cool

I Love the background graphics for your blog.  You will have to teach me how to do some of that when I get back.  I still tend to stick to easy-peasy templates.

Keep up the good work!

Nov.7 learning blog

Today for humanities we got back our rough draft of the descriptive paragraph that the teacher had edited. The we had to write the good copy of the paragraph and we had to make sure that this copy was detailed and had no errors. I think we did this because we will have to write many paragraphs throughout the years and for the following years as well, also we need to learn to use more descriptive words for the work that we write. Then after we were  done writing the good copy we set up our portfolios and filled them up with some stuff we have done so far such as think alouds, short story practice sheets, and something to show the teacher the progress we have made from the past few months. I think we did this because we need to learn how to organize our work properly and we will use this skill outside of humanities when we have to write our grad transmissions in grade 12 to show how much we've improved.
Reminder: Next week is innovation week so bring all your supplies to school and don't forget to bring your proposal sheet. Also there is no school on Monday.

Nov 6 learning log

For today we first did silent reading, after we handed out the homework on brainstorming. Shortly afterwards, we wrote a paragraph based on the brainstorm we did on a certain person/place. When we finished the paragraphs, we exchanged paragrphs to mark each others work.there was no homework i think The reason why we did the paragraphs is because so then we will be able to write in detail, and learn how to properly write a paragraph. We exchanged papers with classmates to edit is because so then we can help others improve writhing by editing their work. In the future, these skills can be used to write exams/essays during university/college, as well as during work. Peer editing can also help by being able to find and mark another's mistake and improve your own paragraph as well.

November 5th 2013 Learning Blog

Today in Humanities, we discussed concluding sentences and using the five senses in descriptive paragraphs. The learning intention was to learning and practicing concluding sentences, so we can learn to properly end a paragraph. We learned about using the five senses in a paragraph, so we can describe what we see, feel, hear, smell, and taste in descriptive paragraphs with lots of detail. I am able to explain what we did and how we did it. We can take this beyond humanities because we will need to write paragraphs during university and in future careers. Our homework is to brainstorm a person or place to describe.

November 4th 2013 Learning Log

Today we were working in the paragraph writing booklet. We had to look at a scrambled up paragraph and put the sentences in the right order with the topic sentence first and the supporting details after that. I don't think we had any homework today so that's why this is a little bit short.
