Things That Are Obsolete In Today's Schools

In the article "14 things that are obsolete in 21st century schools", the author argues that many things that we consider normal in our schools, such as phones being banned, are no longer reasonable. Since many things have changed since the last time rules such as these have been placed, many of them are not relevant any more and should be changed.
Half of the people that actually care about anything, think that these rules should not be changed. They believe that keeping the rules "old fashioned" is better, for whatever reason. Banning wifi, and phones, and computer rooms, and all these USEFUL technology devices is the best idea to them. Not trying to offend anyone, but these people are the kind of people from the past. They don't understand that technology is HUGE in today's society and forgetting about it and banning it is a bad idea.
The other half of the people agree with the author of this post. These are the more "up to date" people that understand that technology is really important and isn't the root of all evil. (Which is pretty much what people that disagree with this think) I do understand that it can easily be used for bad things and can cause distractions in the class. But if you reinforce the rules, like any other classroom rules, that texting in class is bad, then you would be fine.
In my opinion, I think all of these 14 things are obsolete. All but 1, which is #8, unhealthy food in cafeterias. I really don't see why they don't sell unhealthy food in cafeterias. (Most) people (like me) are responsible and don't eat unhealthy food too much, but whenever you want some you might as well buy some. Not selling any also doesn't really make a difference in our school because we have all these stores beside our school that has candy and other unhealthy things. But technology wise, I think we should add these things in schools. You can do so much more with technology that you can with books, paper and... that's it. That's pretty much all schools had before. Technology is everywhere, why not have it in schools?
    The end

  2. Hi Osman,
You did a great job with putting detail and effort for this topic but next time I would add a little more detail in the perspectives of the people that think that using technology would just make things worse. Try to put an equal amount of detail into each persons perspective rather than just leaning towards one side and putting down the other. Other than that you did a good job with explaining why we should have technology at school.

    1. You are getting much better at giving concrete and specific feedback Manreet - well done with the examples you chose above. Keep this up.
I think you are right about Osman's effort - he is putting in a lot more effort and attention to his posts and it shows.

  3. Hi Osman
I like this post as one of your best. We are starting to hear your "voice" and get a sense of your style through your opinions. Consider enhancing your posts with visuals or links or other references on related topics. For example, perhaps you find an article or youtube video that counters this argument or even offers another one. After all, as you said. Technology allows us to to way more than we can on paper. So if we have the technological capabilities, why not use them?

Late on my replies and feedback - sorry. Oooh! Just thinking - you could turn this post into a spoken word performance like the ones we saw today by Zacheus Jackson. I can see a rant style version of this too - check out Rick Mercer Rants and there is a contest too with youth examples.
